Swiss Team CHallenge 2022 @ CrossFit Basel

(English version at the bottom of the blogpost)

SUN’S OUT, GUNS OUT!

Wir bieten Platz für 50 Teams – first come, first served!

SUN’S OUT, GUNS OUT! It’s time for our big Team CHallenge!

Saturday, June 25th, and Sunday, June 26th 2022, for the twelfth time the biggest CrossFit Team competition (2021: 656 Teams/ 2624 Athletes) in the german speaking part of Europe will take place, the Swiss Team CHallenge. The event is organised by CrossFit Basel (Ramon Gysin) and CrossFit Leman (Euan Robertson).

Every CrossFit box in Switzerland builds teams, which compete in three categories (Rookies, Regulars and Firebreathers) in the according affiliates. The results will be broadcasted LIVE online and evaluated. The teams consist of 4 members – every team includes at least one female and at least one male athlete.

The teams compete in several events, which will be published ahead of the event with the respective standard videos.

The workouts are created for everyone – EVERYONE. We want as many athletes as possible to be part of the competition, no matter what level. Firebreather athletes master 80% of the given exercises on the Whiteboard, Regular athletes will absolve the scaled version of the workouts. The Rookie category is designed to let everybody participate. So, again: EVERYONE can participate, all you need is a team and big motivation!!

The Swiss Team CHallenge is the biggest event in our box and we hope that no one misses out on it! It’s an exceptional experience to be part of as an athlete. We promise a spectacular day with tons of sweat, primal screams, a fantastic CrossFit Community, party and good food. Be there, it’s a MUST!

We offer space for 50 teams – first come, first served!

There are three categories:

FIREBREATHER – Advanced athletes who can do 80% of the WODs in the CF All Levels with the recommended weights and exercises.

REGULARS – WODs are adapted, with lighter weights and slightly easier exercises.

ROOKIES – Everyone else, and by that we mean, EVERYONE else.

If you are not sure about the division, ask one of our coaches for advice.

Each team will consist of four people, at least one female or male per team, who will complete the events together. There will be 3 workouts, all on the same day. You will choose to participate on Saturday or Sunday.

The WODs and STANDARDS will be published before the competition with the corresponding standard videos. Among other places you can find them on the official Facebookpage and the homepage of the Swiss Team CHallenge.

No Bull CrossFit Games Open 2022 – the biggest CrossFit community-event!

The No Bull CrossFit Games season 2022 begins with the worldwide CROSSFIT GAMES OPEN – on February 24th, 2022. Let’s come together and celebrate our Fitness and Community, everybody is welcome!

Read all about Team CrossFit Basel’s past performances and European adventures at the bottom of the post.

Read the Recap about the 2021 Open here.

What are the CrossFit Games Open?

Anyone can sign up to participate in three workouts over three weeks and post their scores online. There are several categories including a scaled and foundation one, that is accessible for everybody.

In 2019, over 400’000 athletes from around the world participated in the Open. 130 athletes from CrossFit Basel/Downtown! In 2021, despite the Pandemic, 245’000 athletes world wide participated, over 80 members of CrossFit Basel/Downtown took part.

Whether you are a beginner, an advanced athlete, junior or master – the CrossFit Games Open are accessible for anyone. There is already a whole slew of athletes from CrossFit Basel/Downtown who are currently prepping for the competition. Join them and let’s workout side by side! If it you have never participated, perfect, this year is the best year to start as there will be a foundation category for newbies!

We’ve had people get their first pull-ups, first toes to bar, first muscle up, set a PR on a clean and jerk, and on and on and on, all during the Open, because of the atmosphere and the community. It’s hard to put into words. Kind of like when your friends say “So tell me what this CrossFit stuff is all about.”

On February 24th, 2022 9pm the first Open Workout will be released. Athletes have four days – until Mondaynight 1am – to absolve the workout. Judges will score the performance and you will have to submit your results to the Games site online. A new workout will be released every Thursdaynight within these three weeks (end of Open Games: March 14th, 2022). A scaled and foundation option of the Open workout will be released each week of the Open too. With reduced loading or less challenging movements, the scaled and foundation option will be designed to make the Open even more accessible.

Marton Pal wasted after 18.5

Because it was so much fun the last few years, we will again organise a so called „Intramural Open“-Event, the same way we did it last year.

All of CrossFit Basel/DT’s registered athletes (2019: 130 athletes, 2021 80 athletes participated) will be divided in teams of FOUR. If you want to create an „official“ team on the CrossFit Games Leaderboard, you must be a team of two men and two women as the Open is the first stage of qualifying for the Games, the world championship. If you are only competing as a team for our internal competition, you can be any mix of men and women, scaled, rxd or foundation.

Each team will come up with their own team name, colors, all that fun stuff! Want to make shirts – go for it! Noisemakers – go for it! The goal is to have as much fun as humanly possible while challenging yourself to be better than yesterday.

The Google Sheet to sign up will be sent via Newsletter.

Starting tonight, it is up to YOU: Go, sign up online!!
(Sign up at the affiliate you train most of the time, eg. choose CrossFit Basel or CrossFit Basel Downtown)

Let’s DO THIS!!

Now, because we’re creating teams that will compete against one another, we’ve got to have a scoring system, right? To promote fun and encourage everyone to participate, here are how you can help your team score points:

1 point for showing up and posting a score online (no matter what category you compete).
5 points if all teammates earn an official score on the workout.
1-3 points per athlete that finishes in the top three in the box (male/female, 1st 3 points, 2nd 2 points, 3rd 1 point).
5 points for the team with the best spirit.
8 points (team) – Team Bonding: If your team gets together socially outside of the gym (ALL of you – pic posted on our FB page as proof)…you get points. This is a one time bonus, you can do it as many times as you like but it will only earn you points once. It can be done at any point during the three weeks.

CrossFit Basel offers workout times at the box. These are as follows:

Week 1 – Feb 25-27th

• Friday, 19:30h – 22:00h
• Saturday, 14:00h – 18:00h (BBQ possible)
• Sunday, 15:30h – 17:30h

Week 2 – March 4-6th

• Friday, 17:00h – 22:00h
• Saturday, 18:30h – 21:00h (BBQ possible)
• Sunday, 18:30h – 20:30h

Week 3 – March 11-12th

• Friday, 19:30h – 22:00h
• Saturday, 16:00h – 22:00h (BBQ and closing party)

We genuinely want to encourage all of you to register for this competition. Not only will it be challenging and a ton of fun to compete within the community, but it is the perfect chance to gather competition experience and to figure out your current position with your performance and strength in CrossFit.

Become a Judge!!

In order to keep up with the international standards, all workouts must be scored by certified judges. Anyone who is interested is allowed or better asked to take this course and become a judge! You can simply take the course of six modules here. This course includes general information on competition rules, regulations and common movements.

And now let’s train, prepare, get strong and look forward to a strong CrossFit Games Open 2022!

2021 Recap

CrossFit Basel at the CrossFit Games Regionals Europe since 2011!

Let’s take a quick review on CrossFit Basel’s performances at the CrossFit Games Open/Regionals:

The first time we sent athletes to the CrossFit Games Regionals Europe was back in 2011. Former Coach Claudia competed in the category Women Individuals and placed 18th. Read the article from back in the days here!

We did not miss out on the Regionals in 2012 and competed as a team and individual. The team placed 18th and Ramon Gysin who competed as Individual won Event 5, the ‚Snatch Ladder‘. He made it to the final and finished strong with a 15th place out of 60 athletes!

Also, see the teams in action!

https://vimeo.com/44341870

Find the whole report about 2012:

2013: Tom Schwander (ranked 47) and Nadine Steinger (ranked 33) entered the Regionals as Individuals, plus we sent two teams!

This time the teams finished with a strong 19th and 23rd place.

2014: A team of our best athletes travelled to Copenhagen to take the challenge of the CrossFit Games Regionals Europe. This time they came in 15th!!

We are certainly proud of our qualifications 4 times in a row and will give our best to be part of the Regional Games in Madrid this year as well. Also important to point out is that the teams of athletes varied from year to year. Overall, we sent TWENTY different athletes to the Reebok CrossFit Games Regionals Europe during these four years. This shows that we follow a concept and strategy that works. Considering that the qualifications get tougher each year, we can be proud to be well in the loop with the fittest people on Earth.
