RESULTS SWISS TEAM CHALLENGE 2017 @ CrossFit Basel

Das war das das diesjährige Motto – und es wurde erfüllt!

Nach dem letztes Jahr schon 440 Teams dabei waren, waren nun an der schon achten Swiss Team CHallenge rund 499 Teams, also knapp 2000 CrossFit-Athleten, schweizweit gemeldet!

Davon 12 Firebreather und 30 Regular Teams die in unserer Box, CrossFit Basel antraten. Wir freuten uns auch dieses Jahr wieder über den Besuch von externen Teams und senden viele Grüsse an Reebok CrossFit Augsburg, CrossFit Ansbach, CrossFit Öuf, KSC Solothurn und CrossFit Lörrach! Großartig, dass ihr da wart!

Der Tag versprach im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes heiss zu werden! Um 8h startete die Registration und der erste Kaffee wurde an der Bar gezaubert. Nane Sele baute schon mal den Ofen für die hungrige Meute auf und um 9:30h konnten wir alle Teilnehmer und Zuschauer begrüssen. Die Aufregung vor dem ersten Event um 10h stieg langsam…

Event 1/WOD 1 & 2 war ein schöner Einstieg für eine Team-Competition. Absprache und Zusammenarbeit waren gefragt. Zwei Couplets bestehend aus Pull-up-Variationen und Thruster und Toes to bar/ Knee Raises und Power Cleans mussten aufgeteilt und abgearbeitet werden. Minütlich unterbrochen von 4 Synchronized Burpee over Box Jumps. Danach waren alle gut aufgewärmt und endgültig im Modus!

Event 2 bestand aus 5 separat gewerteten Teilen. Wod 3 war ein 3RM Thruster – gute Selbsteinschätzung und Krafteinteilung waren gefragt. Der beste Durchschnitt gewann. Bei CFBS waren das „Norbert & the Girls“. Nora, Benjamin, Basil und Manu bewegten jeweils 80, 85 und 95kg! In den weiteren vier Einheiten (Wod 4,5,6 & 7) wählte jedes Teammitglied einen Skill. Folgendes Übungs-Potpourri stand zur Auswahl: Max. reps Ring Muscle-ups (Firebreather) bzw. Toes to Rings (Regular- selbst für viele erfahrenere Firebreather noch neu!), L-Sit Hold, max. reps Pistols/ Wall Balls und max. reps Double Unders. Tiziano (Team Buns&Guns) z.B. schaffte ganze 165 DU’s innerhalb der 90 Sekunden!

Hier konnte jeder sein Bestes zeigen und geben!

Vor Event 3/WOD 8 & 9 wurden die bisherigen Ergebnisse ausgewertet und die letzten Heatlisten erstellt. Ausreichend Zeit um sich etwas in der Sonne zu entspannen, sich zu stärken und mit einem kalten Shake oder anderem Kaltgetränk an der Bar zu erfrischen. Bei dieser Gelegenheit ein fettes Dankeschön und Respekt an alle Helfer und Judges für die tolle Arbeit! Bereits zu diesem Zeitpunkt hattet ihr schon Grosses geleistet!

Für den letzten Streich wurde noch mal dick aufgefahren und gefühlt alles an Equipment parat gestellt! Die Wettkampffläche war voll und die Atmosphäre angespannt- jetzt konnte einiges an Punkten gesammelt werden! Der Zuschauer-Bereich füllte sich…um 16:30h startete der erste Heat seinen letzten grossen Einsatz.

Ein Time Cap von 24 Minuten war gesetzt. Es galt möglichst viele Kalorien auf dem Rudergerät zu sammeln (WOD 9). Während ein Athlet („switch as you want“) permanent ruderte, musste vom restlichen Team folgendes Brett absolviert werden:

 

 

 

Das Geschrei und die Musik war laut, die Stimmung war bombig und danach sah es auch so aus. Als hätte eine Bombe eingeschlagen. Grosses Kino. Alle waren erschöpft aber zufrieden als auch das letzte Heat gegen 20:00 durch war.

Der Grill wurde angefacht, mit dem ersten kühlen Bier angestossen und die Halle für die Siegerehrung vorbereitet.

Wir sind stolz wie Oskar auf euch! Seid es auch! 🙂 Es war toll zu erleben, wie motiviert ihr seid und wie der Sport uns verbindet. Bleibt dran, habt Spass und es wird spannend sein, zu sehen, was wir noch alles gemeinsam erreichen können.

Man kann es nicht oft genug erwähnen: Ein grosses Dankeschön geht an die Organisatoren und das Team von CrossFit Basel und CrossFit Leman,  an die „Ganztageshelfer“ beim Scoring (Pedee und Nicole!), an der Registration (die 6 Engel für Sarah) , beim Auf- und Umbau (Helden der Arbeit Markus und Simon, Manu und Pascale) und allen (!) Judges – einfach an jeden Helfer für jeden noch so „kleinen“ Handschlag und geplanten oder spontanen Einsatz! An Jaz für die Unterhaltung. An unsere Sponsoren Canyon, foodspring und Chiefs (Danke Melsa!!) An Nane Sele und an Döne für die top Verpflegung und die Jungs und Mädels an der Bar. Last but not least natürlich auch an die starken Teams und an das fantastische Publikum!

„Die Swiss Team CHallenge ist für mich der schönste Tag im Event-Kalender. CrossFit pur. Zusammen ein paar WODs machen, leiden, schwitzen, aber auch essen, lachen, trinken, feiern und zum Schluss zu gutem altem Eurodance tanzen.

Ich bedanke mich bei allen AthletInnen für den herausragenden Einsatz und hoffe, die von mir geplanten WODs haben euch Spass gemacht.

Community ist ein zentraler Aspekt im CrossFit und es stechen jene heraus, die sich aktiv beteiligen, mithelfen und somit Community  machen. Events dieser Grössenordnung benötigen mehrere Dutzend zumeist freiwillige HelferInnen. Allen HelferInnen gebührt ausserordentlicher Dank, euer Einsatz ist unverzichtbar!“

SWISS TEAM CHALLENGE 2017

This year’s mottos were met on a grand scale!

This year’s competition represents the eighth manifestation of the Swiss Team CHallenge event. After last year’s 440 registered Teams, this year exceeded with a total of 499, meaning nearly 2000 CrossFit Athletes nationwide!

Our home box CrossFit Basel participated with 12 Firebreather and 30 Regular Teams. This year we were once again happy to welcome external teams to our box and send our salutes to Reebok CrossFit Augsburg, CrossFit Ansbach, CrossFit Öuf, KSC Solothurn and CrossFit Lörrach! It was a pleasure having you with us on this special occasion!

The day was sure to bring up the heat – literally! At 8 am registration welcomed athletes and the first coffees were already being distributed at the bar. Nane Sele was heating up the oven for the hungry crowds and at 9 am the organization committee was able to welcome participants and spectators. The excitement for the first event starting at 10 am began to rise…

Event 1 / WOD 1 & 2 was a good start for a Team-Competition. Internal agreement and collaboration was crucial. Two couples of pull-up variations with thrusters and toes to bar / knee raises with power cleans had to be split up and completed. Every minute the flow was interrupted by 4 synchronized burpee box jumps over. After this workout everyone was assured to be warmed up sufficiently and had definitely entered into competition-mood!

Event 2 was composed of 5 parts. WOD 3 was a 3RM Thruster – this required a solid self-assessment as well as a tactical sizing of ones’ strength. The highest mean of the entire team won. “Norbert & the Girls” dominated this WOD: Nora, Benjamin, Basil and Manu managed 80, 85 and 90kg, respectively! For the subsequent four parts of the event (WOD 4,5,6&7) each team member chose a skill. The following potpourri of movements were to be allocated: max. reps Ring Muscle-Ups (Firebreathers)/ max reps toes to rings (Regular), max L-sit hold, max reps Pistols / Wall Ball shots and max reps Double Unders. Tiziano (Team Buns&Guns) completed a total of 165 DU in the provided 90 seconds!

This event was an opportunity for everyone to give and show their best!

Before Event 3 / WOD 8 & 9 took place, the results of the previous workouts were utilized to establish the final heat list. This open time slot provided an opportunity to relax in the sun or refuel tired bodies with a cool shake from our bar. We take this occasion to send a big thank you to all our helpers, volunteers and judges! By this time already your performance was invaluable!

A grand finale was promised. Basically the entire box equipment was arranged on the floor for the final event. The competition floor was flooded and the atmosphere tense – this was an opportunity to collect valuable points. The spectators’ zone began to fill up… and at 5.30 pm the final heat started with a final effort.

A 24-minute Time Cap was set. The most amount of calories was to be collected on the rowing ergometer (WOD 9). While one athlete was continuously rowing (“switch as you want”), the other three of the team were to complete the following Mount Everest:

 

The cheering, screaming and music was shattering. The atmosphere had the literal impact of a bomb, and the aftermath was apparent. Great, great stuff. Every single athlete was exhausted but content when the final heat was done around 8 pm.

We will like to conclude with a couple of personal words from Ramon:

“For me, the Swiss Team CHallenge is my favorite day in our event-calendar. Pure CrossFit. We fight through a couple of WODs together, suffer, sweat, but also eat, laugh, drink, party and conclude it all to some good old Eurodance.

I wish to thank all the athletes for their extraordinary dedication and hope that my WODs provided you with enjoyment and a challenge.

Community is a crucial aspect in CrossFit and the ones who are actively engaged by taking time to help out are the ones who stick out from the crowd. They are the ones who form Community. Events on this scale require a couple dozen, usually voluntary, helpers. Invaluable gratitude is due to all helpers, your work indispensable!”

 

To conclude the eventful day, the grill was heated up, the first cooled beer cans were raised and the box prepared for the award ceremony.

SUN’S OUT, GUNS OUT! Es ist wieder Zeit für unsere grosse Team CHallenge!

Am Samstag, 24. Juni 2017 findet zum achten Mal der grösste Team Wettkampf im deutschsprachigen Europa statt, die Swiss Team CHallenge (2016: 449 Teams/ 1796 athletes!). Der Anlass wird organisiert von CrossFit Basel und CrossFit Leman.

In allen CrossFit Boxen der ganzen Schweiz werden Teams gebildet, welche in zwei Kategorien (Regulars und Firebreathers) lokal in den jeweiligen Affiliates gegeneinander antreten. Die Resultate werden live online übertragen und ausgewertet. Die Teams bestehen aus vier Leuten, von welchen mindestens eine Frau und ein Mann dabei sein muss.

Die Teams messen sich in mehreren Events, welche vor der CHallenge bekannt gegeben werden. Zudem wird es – wie bereits in den vergangenen Jahren – wieder entsprechende Videos geben, worauf die Standards ersichtlich sind.

Die Workouts sind so kreiert, dass möglichst viele Athletinnen und Athleten egal (EGAL!) welchen Niveaus teilnehmen können. Die Athleten der Kategorie Firebreathers beherrschen 80% der vorgeschriebenen Übungen auf dem Whiteboard – die Regular Athleten absolvieren eine skalierte Version der Workouts. Also nochmal: ALLE können teilnehmen, alles was Ihr braucht ist ein Team und viel Motivation!

Die Swiss Team CHallenge ist der grösste Event in unserer Box und wir hoffen, dass sich dieses Ereignis niemand entgehen lässt! Es ist ein einmaliges Erlebnis, als WettkämpferIn dabei zu sein und mitzufiebern. Wir versprechen einen spektakulären Tag mit viel Schweiss, Urschreien, einer genialen CrossFit Community, Party und gutem Essen. Dabei sein ist ein MUSS!

SUN’S OUT, GUNS OUT! It’s time for our big Team CHallenge!

Saturday, June 24th 2017, for the eighth time the biggest CrossFit Team competition (2016: 449 Teams/ 1796 athletes!) in the german speaking part of Europe will take place, the Swiss Team CHallenge. The event is been organised by CrossFit Basel and CrossFit Leman.

Every CrossFit box in Switzerland builds teams, which compete in two categories /Regulars and Firebreathers) in the according affiliates. The results will be broadcasted LIVE online and evaluated. The teams consist of 4 members – every team includes at least one female and at least one male athlete.

The teams compete in several events, which will be published ahead of the event with the respective standard videos.

The workouts are created for everyone – EVERYONE. We want as many athletes as possible to be part of the competition, no matter what level. Firebreather athletes master 80% of the given exercises on the Whiteboard, Regular athletes will absolve the scaled version of the workouts. So, again: EVERYONE can participate, all you need is a team and great motivation!!

The Swiss Team CHallenge is the biggest event in our box and we hope that no one misses out on it! It’s an exceptional experience to be part of it as an athlete. We promise a spectacular day with tons of sweat, primal screams, a fantastic CrossFit Community, party and good food. Be there, it’s a MUST!

For the second time in the history of this event, teams from outside of Switzerland are allowed to take part in the official ranking of the competition as long as they compete in a Swiss box. They can enrol via mail (see below).

IMPORTANT – TEAM CAPTAIN: Every team has a Captain (first athlete on the poster), who is responsible for al the team members to know the exercises, the program of the event and the standards! PLUS, he/she must email at sarah@crossfitbasel.ch all the names, email addresses and shirt sizes of the athletes.

JUDGES: We are looking for Judges – please email us at: sarah@crossfitbasel.ch. You can be a competitor AND a judge. The Judges Meeting takes place on Monday, June 19 from 8pm to 10pm at the Dreispitz Box.

You may also come to watch and cheer! The more support and motivation our teams can get, the better.

COSTS: 55.- CHF/EUR per person (exclusive discounts but including the official athlete shirt).

CLOTHING: All events are held inside, no outdoor clothing needed.

REGISTRATION: List your names on the posters at the box.

On Saturday April 29th and Sunday, April 30th, the World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation hosted their annual European Championships in Biella IT.

CrossFit Basel was represented by four athletes and won 2 gold and one bronze medals, took 3 european records!

Our lifting Team currently holds 111 swiss, 4 european and 9 world records!

What is Powerlifting?

Every athlete has three attempts in the following three exercises (Powerlifts). The total of the best lifts count towards the total.

The next event for our team is the World Powerlifting Championship in Boston USA  (3-4. November 2017).

There are raw competitions where only a belt is allowed and there are equipped competitions (single ply => one layer of suits/equipment and multi ply => several layers of equipment) where athletes wear assistant suits, briefs and knee wraps to be able to lift much more weight.

Team CrossFit Basel is competing raw.

What is the WDFPF?

The World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation was established to give drug free lifters a home as in most strength sports there is no or little drug testing. In fact there is no other sports federation (including ALL olympic sports!) in the world today that knows such severe punishment like the WDFPF. If an athlete is tested positive he or she will be banned FOR LIFE and all past results will be erased.

Reebok CrossFit Games Open 2017 – let’s do it again!

The Reebok CrossFit Games season 2017 begins with the worldwide CROSSFIT GAMES OPEN – on February 23 2017!! Our ambition is to qualify again for the CrossFit Regionals Europe where we were part of since 2011-2014 and just missed it by 2 points in 2015 – challenge accepted!!

What are the CrossFit Games?

Anyone can sign up to compete in five workouts over five weeks and post their scores online. There are several categories including a scaled one.

Last year, the Open reached more than 320’000 athletes from around the world. The next stage of the CrossFit Games season are the CrossFit Regionals. Competitors need to finish near the top of their region’s Leaderboard. The top five men, five women and five teams at the end of each three-day regional competition will receive invitations to the CrossFit Games in the US, where the fittest person on Earth will be crowned.

Whether you are a beginner, an advanced athlete, junior or master – the CrossFit Games Open are accessible for anyone. There is already a whole slew of athletes from CrossFit Basel who are currently prepping for the competition. Join them and let’s compete side by side!!

We’ve had people get their first pull-ups, first toes to bar, first muscle up, set a PR on a clean and jerk, and on and on and on, all during the Open, because of the atmosphere and the community. It’s hard to put into words. Kind of like when your friends say “So tell me what this CrossFit stuff is all about.”

On February 23, 2017 at 5pm PST (Fridaynight 1am for us) the first Open Workout will be released. Athletes have four days – until Mondaynight 1am – to absolve the workout. Judges will score the performance and you will have to submit your results to the Games site online. A new workout will be released every Thursdaynight within these five weeks (end of Open Games: March 27th, 2017). A scaled option of the Open workout will be released each week of the Open too. With reduced loading or less challenging movements, the scaled option will be designed to make the Open even more accessible.

Let’s DO THIS!!

Because it was so much fun last year, we will again organise a so called „Intramural Open“-Event:

All of CrossFit Basel’s registered athletes will be divided in four teams. Every Team has a Captain. Our best athletes will be spread amongst those 4 teams in a draft (tbd).

CrossFit Basel Downtown will also have a team.

This years Captains are: Tiziano Nardella, Döne Bonina, Nicole Reichmuth and Daniel Hoffmann. CFBS DT will be lead by Lorenz Kuske.

Starting tonight, it is up to YOU: Go, sign up!!

Each team will come up with their own team name, colors, all that fun stuff! Want to make shirts – go for it! Noisemakers – go for it! The goal is to have as much fun as humanly possible while challenging yourself to be better than yesterday.

Talk to one of the Captains if you want to compete in their team, we will hang out registration sheets at the box starting next Tuesday!

Now, because we’re creating teams that will compete against one another, we’ve got to have a scoring system, right? To promote fun and encourage everyone to participate, here are how you can help your team score points:

1 point for showing up and posting a score online (no matter what category you compete).
5 points if all teammates earn an official score on the workout.
1-3 points per athlete that finishes in the top three in the box (male/female, 1st 3 points, 2nd 2 points, 3rd 1 point).
5 points for the team with the best spirit.
8 points (team) – Team Bonding: If your team gets together socially outside of the gym (ALL of you – pic posted on our FB page as proof)…you get points. This is a one time bonus, you can do it as many times as you like but it will only earn you points once. It can be done at any point during the 5 weeks.

After the final Open workout on Saturday March 25th, we’re going to host a big BBQ at the box and present awards. Details will be announced soon.

CrossFit Basel offers Workout Times at the box. These are as follows:

  • Friday, 8pm – 11pm
  • Saturday, 2:30pm – 6:30pm
  • Sunday, 4:30pm – 6pm
  • Monday, 2:30pm – 4:30pm (exclusively reserved for Competition-Athletes) / 8:30pm – 10pm

EACH FRIDAY AND SATURDAY THE NEW LOUNGE WILL BE OPEN!

We strongly recommend doing the workout Friday or Saturday.

We genuinely want to encourage all of you to register for this competition. Not only will it be challenging and a ton of fun to compete within the community, but it is the perfect chance to gather competition experience and to figure out your current position with your performance and strength in CrossFit.

In order to keep up with the international standards, all workouts must be scored by certified judges. Anyone who is interested is allowed or better asked to take this course and become a judge! You can simply take the course of six modules here. This course includes general information on competition rules, regulations and common movements.

CrossFit Basel at the CrossFit Games Regionals Europe since 2011!

Let’s take a quick review on CrossFit Basel’s performances at the CrossFit Games Open/Regionals:

The first time we sent athletes to the CrossFit Games Regionals Europe was back in 2011. Former Coach Claudia competed in the category Women Individuals and placed 18th. Read the article from back in the days here!

We did not miss out on the Regionals in 2012 and competed as a team and individual. The team placed 18th and Ramon Gysin who competed as Individual won Event 5, the ‚Snatch Ladder‘. He made it to the final and finished strong with a 15th place out of 60 athletes!

REEBOK CROSSFIT GAMES REGIONALS EUROPE: Team CrossFit Basel in Kopenhagen

2013: Tom Schwander (ranked 47) and Nadine Steinger (ranked 33) entered the Regionals as Individuals, plus we sent two teams!

This time the teams finished with a strong 19th and 23rd place.

CrossFit Regionals Europe 2013

2014: A team of our best athletes travelled to Copenhagen to take the challenge of the CrossFit Games Regionals Europe. This time they came in 15th!!

We are certainly proud of our qualifications 4 times in a row and will give our best to be part of the Regional Games in Madrid this year as well. Also important to point out is that the teams of athletes varied from year to year. Overall, we sent TWENTY different athletes to the Reebok CrossFit Games Regionals Europe during these four years. This shows that we follow a concept and strategy that works. Considering that the qualifications get tougher each year, we can be proud to be well in the loop with the fittest people on Earth.

Sunday, April 4th, CrossFit Zug/Luzern hosted the first national competition „Switzerland’s Fittest“ at the go active fitness exhibition in Luzern.

50kcal Assault Air Bike:
Start with arms and legs then splitting up legs only and alternating to arms only every 5 calories (until 50 calorie total is met)

Ramon sprinted through the Assault Bike calories and the Squats, got stuck on the pull-ups. Finished 9th. Joel showed a balanced performance, took 5th. Alessia crushed the workout and finished 30 seconds ahead of her competition.

On Sunday, March 20th, the Swiss Drug Free Powerlifting Federation (part of WDFPF) hosted their annual Swiss Championships in Lausanne. 30 athletes participated. The Committee thanks all volunteers and all participants, congratulations for the great results!

CrossFit Basel was represented by seven athletes and won 6 gold medals, took 9 swiss and 2 european records!

Monika, Sonja, Aline, Nick and me (Ramon) qualified for the World Championships in November.

Strong(wo)man: Swiss Championship Log Lift & Axle Bar Deadlift 2016

On Saturday April 2nd the Swiss Strongman Federation hosted the swiss championship in Log Lift & Axle Bar Deadlift in Lucerne at the GO-Active fitness exhibition.

CrossFit Basel was represented with four athletes, Vanessa Grosdanoff, Bogdan Krumov, Bruce Phillips and Headcoach Ramon Gysin.

In a last (wo)man standing style contest athletes competed in two different events. Athletes could skip a weight or jump in whenever they wanted. It was a short but intense competition. The ranking in each event was added to one final ranking.

Headcoach Ramon Gysin sums up the numbers, what, why and how of Open WOD 16.5:

Yes, that’s how bad it was. I can still hardly type, as my triceps are screaming.

When I woke up Friday early in the morning to check out what came out of Dave’s mind for 16.5, I was a little bit disappointed: Repeat 14.5. Burpees AGAIN.

But it’s still one of my favourite Open WODs because there is no timecap and its a grueling one. Mentally very tough, Thrusters and Burpees, most people hate them.

And back in 2014 when this WOD first came up, there was not even a scaled option, so some people really fought forever to get the WOD done. This is also the beauty of CrossFit, it is for sure not easy and it teaches you a lesson every now and then.

Kudos also to the many people at our box and around the globe for going rx’d in this WOD. Special mention to Gee-Jay (34:10), Tamara Lutz (28:59) and Dora Seebacher for not going scaled. Dora was our oldest competitor (sorry, usually I try to avoid talking about a lady’s age) this year (rx’d Masters 55-59 18:36).

The internet is now full of people complaining, the Opens have been too light and to easy, despite having a scaled version now. I say it again, in my opionion, the scaled version is to down scale, so more people can do the opens (rasining registration numbers confirm this believe). It’s not meant to have scaled as the old rx’d and therefor make the rx’d heavier than what it was in the past.

There were new movements introduced with the lunge and the bar muscle-up. Other than that no suprises about the exercises. Also no surprises about the length of the Open WODs. All pretty normal.

The Opens have always been a lot of reps and therefor a lot of Cardio. Many potentially good Regionals Athletes will not make it past the Open, because the light WODs with a lot of reps are a weakness.

After the Open you should also take a moment and sit down, think about where YOUR weaknesses are. The Opens are fantastic for me as a coach. There is thousands of data points and as you rank against other people, you can see very clear, where you are strong, or weak, compared to your peers.

It has been a fantastic five weeks with downs and ups. We missed our goal to qualify for regionals as a team, but we will continue to work hard and try it again. There have been some new(er) athletes in our team with strong performances and we will help them grow further.

In the meanwhile you will see our competitors potentially at some minor european competitions during the year (Regionals is still THE major competition).

BUT, we definitely reached our main goal, strenghtening the community within CrossFit Basel and CrossFit Basel Downtown. It has been amazing to see how you guys connected, cheered and helped each other. With at outstanding number of 104 registered athletes almost every 5th member competed in the Opens.

As I Coach I am very proud of everybody’s achievements! You pushed yourself very hard and many of you learned new skills, performed stronger than expected. This is the magic of a competitive community. We fight together, struggle together and then share the rewards together.

This is copied straight from the CrossFit Games Open Rule book:

„The team Leaderboard is unofficial and subject to change until all Individual athletes have completed the video review process and either accepted or rejected their invitation to compete at regionals.“

The final team leaderboard will be available mid April. In the past, our team jumped up about ten places in the ranking after the individual competitors were sorted out from their teams.

The following leaderboard is just provisionally.

Alessia is the third best female CrossFitter in Switzerland, great Job congrats!

With Jessi, Katrin, Pascale and Aline we have four more girls in the swiss top 20!

Me and Tom rank in the top 30 (Joel also, if he had put in a score for 16.4 😉 ). Jona in the top 50.

CF Turicum will most likely be the only german speaking Box with a team at Regionals (they have two individuals who will potentially go individual, their scores will not count anymore towards the team).

Myleo from Berlin and also CF Munich performed strong but are too far out of the top 20.

Our team has undergone a change again since last year. Our best male competitor declined injured and on the girls side there were also different athletes scoring. This means two things. First it is another proof we are doing a great job to bring up new athletes. Second, life happens and its hard to perform well and build up over years.

Either we grow with the nordic competition or we hope for a split of Europe into two Regions. Kidding, of course Europe should be splitted, because it was by far the strongest region. But on the other hand, the south just has to work harder, including us. Enough said.

Headcoach Ramon Gysin sums up the numbers, what, why and how of Open WOD 16.3:

What a nice Chipper. The Deadlift will fatique your rowing. The Wall Balls will fatique your Handstand Push-ups. Where this is a great opportunity for people going rx’d even when they are struggling with certain skills or gymnastics, for the higher level athletes this one really came down on how well you perform at Handstand Push-ups. I said it last year and I will repeat it again. Some people are born to do Handstand Push-ups and others aren’t. Leverage makes a huge difference (and so did various interpretations on standards, but let’s not elaborate on that…).

Our team peformed very consistent with an outstanding performance of Alessia Wälchli, she is the female top scorer in Switzerland. Congratulations!

We have still 5 Girls in the top 20 of Switzerland.

Again a new movement. Dave Castro was making this one really exciting. At the announcement show he demonstrated the movements himself. Only a small group inside the HQ knows the WOD beforehand. At the time of the announcement he was hosting a party at our friends Box in Milano, Reebok CrossFit Officine. After demonstrating the snatches he then walked over to the rig and pointed to the rings, but then performed Bar Muscle-Ups instead. A nice twist.

Many people struggled with the grip and their ability to perform a Bar Muscle-Up when already tired and gassed and the Leaderboard was shuffled around quite a bit.

What I really liked, that many people, not only at our box, but world wide, got their first bar muscle up. We also had some athletes getting their first bar muscle up and then many more. That’s what we preach beforehand, the Opens really push and motivate people and many perform beyond their imagination. Great stuff.
