RESULTS SWISS TEAM CHALLENGE 2017 @ CrossFit Basel

-DE- English below-

#STCH2017 #Teamup #evenbigger

20170624_STC_Part2_521

Minütlich unterbrochen von 4 Synchronized Burpee over Box Jumps.

20170624_STC_Part2_253

Während ein Athlet („switch as you want“) permanent ruderte, musste vom restlichen Team folgendes Brett absolviert werden:

SWISS TEAM CHALLENGE 2017

#STCH2017 #Teamup #evenbigger

This year’s mottos were met on a grand scale!

This year’s competition represents the eighth manifestation of the Swiss Team CHallenge event. After last year’s 440 registered Teams, this year exceeded with a total of 499, meaning nearly 2000 CrossFit Athletes nationwide!

Our home box CrossFit Basel participated with 12 Firebreather and 30 Regular Teams. This year we were once again happy to welcome external teams to our box and send our salutes to Reebok CrossFit Augsburg, CrossFit Ansbach, CrossFit Öuf, KSC Solothurn and CrossFit Lörrach! It was a pleasure having you with us on this special occasion!

The day was sure to bring up the heat – literally! At 8 am registration welcomed athletes and the first coffees were already being distributed at the bar. Nane Sele was heating up the oven for the hungry crowds and at 9 am the organization committee was able to welcome participants and spectators. The excitement for the first event starting at 10 am began to rise…

Event 1 / WOD 1 & 2 was a good start for a Team-Competition. Internal agreement and collaboration was crucial. Two couples of pull-up variations with thrusters and toes to bar / knee raises with power cleans had to be split up and completed. Every minute the flow was interrupted by 4 synchronized burpee box jumps over. After this workout everyone was assured to be warmed up sufficiently and had definitely entered into competition-mood!

Event 2 was composed of 5 parts. WOD 3 was a 3RM Thruster – this required a solid self-assessment as well as a tactical sizing of ones’ strength. The highest mean of the entire team won. “Norbert & the Girls” dominated this WOD: Nora, Benjamin, Basil and Manu managed 80, 85 and 90kg, respectively! For the subsequent four parts of the event (WOD 4,5,6&7) each team member chose a skill. The following potpourri of movements were to be allocated: max. reps Ring Muscle-Ups (Firebreathers)/ max reps toes to rings (Regular), max L-sit hold, max reps Pistols / Wall Ball shots and max reps Double Unders. Tiziano (Team Buns&Guns) completed a total of 165 DU in the provided 90 seconds!

This event was an opportunity for everyone to give and show their best!

Before Event 3 / WOD 8 & 9 took place, the results of the previous workouts were utilized to establish the final heat list. This open time slot provided an opportunity to relax in the sun or refuel tired bodies with a cool shake from our bar. We take this occasion to send a big thank you to all our helpers, volunteers and judges! By this time already your performance was invaluable!

A grand finale was promised. Basically the entire box equipment was arranged on the floor for the final event. The competition floor was flooded and the atmosphere tense – this was an opportunity to collect valuable points. The spectators’ zone began to fill up… and at 5.30 pm the final heat started with a final effort.

A 24-minute Time Cap was set. The most amount of calories was to be collected on the rowing ergometer (WOD 9). While one athlete was continuously rowing (“switch as you want”), the other three of the team were to complete the following Mount Everest:

The cheering, screaming and music was shattering. The atmosphere had the literal impact of a bomb, and the aftermath was apparent. Great, great stuff. Every single athlete was exhausted but content when the final heat was done around 8 pm.

We are incredibly proud of you guys! We hope you are too! It was amazing to experience your joint motivation and the way in which sport manages to connect and bring us together. Stay at it and keep having fun. We can’t wait to find out what else we will achieve together.

We are not able to state it enough: a huge THANK YOU to the organization committee and the Teams from CrossFit Basel and CrossFit Leman as well as every single helper, for your planned or spontaneous commitment. It is hugely appreciated. Our thank you goes out to Jaz, for your impeccable entertainment, to our sponsors Canyon, foodspring and Chiefs (Thank you Melsa!). To Nane Sele and Döne for the catering and the girls and dudes at the bar. Last but not least, our thanks go out to the strong teams and the fantastic spectators!

We will like to conclude with a couple of personal words from Ramon:

“For me, the Swiss Team CHallenge is my favorite day in our event-calendar. Pure CrossFit. We fight through a couple of WODs together, suffer, sweat, but also eat, laugh, drink, party and conclude it all to some good old Eurodance.

I wish to thank all the athletes for their extraordinary dedication and hope that my WODs provided you with enjoyment and a challenge.

Community is a crucial aspect in CrossFit and the ones who are actively engaged by taking time to help out are the ones who stick out from the crowd. They are the ones who form Community. Events on this scale require a couple dozen, usually voluntary, helpers. Invaluable gratitude is due to all helpers, your work indispensable!”

To conclude the eventful day, the grill was heated up, the first cooled beer cans were raised and the box prepared for the award ceremony.

Swiss Team CHallenge 2017 @ CrossFit Basel

(English version below)

SUN’S OUT, GUNS OUT!

Wir bieten Platz für 48 Teams – first come, first served.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Swiss-Team-CHallenge/225674454288557?fref=ts

SUN’S OUT, GUNS OUT! It’s time for our big Team CHallenge!

Saturday, June 24th 2017, for the eighth time the biggest CrossFit Team competition (2016: 449 Teams/ 1796 athletes!) in the german speaking part of Europe will take place, the Swiss Team CHallenge. The event is been organised by CrossFit Basel and CrossFit Leman.

Every CrossFit box in Switzerland builds teams, which compete in two categories /Regulars and Firebreathers) in the according affiliates. The results will be broadcasted LIVE online and evaluated. The teams consist of 4 members – every team includes at least one female and at least one male athlete.

The teams compete in several events, which will be published ahead of the event with the respective standard videos.

The workouts are created for everyone – EVERYONE. We want as many athletes as possible to be part of the competition, no matter what level. Firebreather athletes master 80% of the given exercises on the Whiteboard, Regular athletes will absolve the scaled version of the workouts. So, again: EVERYONE can participate, all you need is a team and great motivation!!

The Swiss Team CHallenge is the biggest event in our box and we hope that no one misses out on it! It’s an exceptional experience to be part of it as an athlete. We promise a spectacular day with tons of sweat, primal screams, a fantastic CrossFit Community, party and good food. Be there, it’s a MUST!

The WODs and STANDARDS will be published ahead of the competition. Amongst others you can find them also on the official Facebookpage:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Swiss-Team-CHallenge/225674454288557?fref=ts

IMPORTANT – TEAM CAPTAIN: Every team has a Captain (first athlete on the poster), who is responsible for al the team members to know the exercises, the program of the event and the standards! PLUS, he/she must email at sarah@crossfitbasel.ch all the names, email addresses and shirt sizes of the athletes.

JUDGES: We are looking for Judges – please email us at: sarah@crossfitbasel.ch. You can be a competitor AND a judge. The Judges Meeting takes place on Monday, June 19 from 8pm to 10pm at the Dreispitz Box.

Reebok CrossFit Games Open WOD 15.5 and Recap

And it’s over!!

Despite the Opens being over for a couple of weeks already, our team had to wait until past Wednesday to know wether they were qualified for the CrossFit Games Meridian Regionals or not: The team leaderboard had to be re-sorted as the the individuals dropped out of their teams (this sounds more complicated than it is: 30 men and 30 women will go to the Regionals, their scores do not count anymore to the teams score and therefore the team leaderboard looks much different now than right after the Opens).

Long story short: This year only 20 teams from Europe qualify for the newly created Meridian Regionals (new super region, including Africa, read more here). We jumped from Rank 31 to 23 and therefore missed the qualification by 3 spots only.

Here is the re-sorted team leaderboard:

Final Team Leaderboard 2015 CrossFit Games Open

Final Team Leaderboard 2015 CrossFit Games Open

CrossFit Basel’s Headcoach Ramon Gysin recaps the CrossFit Games Opens:

„The 2015 CrossFit Season looks like it is a transition season for us:

Half of our last years very successful Regionals Team dropped out either because of injury or private decisions. But as we are known for a very broad competition class (bringing 20+ different athletes to the European Regionals since 2011) producing high level athletes from the scratch, this was just a normal challenge for us. New athletes stepped into the game and for example on the girls side two new athletes would have gone to Regionals in case we made it.

As CrossFit evolves as a sport, it gets harder to qualify for the most competitive events. Despite being better ranked than last year (31 before the adjustement of the team leaderboard compared to 34 in 2014), we did not qualify due to the change of the qualification mode: Only 20 Teams from Europe qualify, as opposed to 30 the last couple of years.

So we clearly missed our goal to qualify a team for the Regionals. But there is no reason to be mad about this. It is what it is and it gives us an important information: We have to do more, invest more, work harder. Nothing else. Very simple and also easily to manage. What has to be done is very clear.

We will find the most motivated athletes and will start focusing on next year already from next week on. There will be goal setting workshops to identify individual weaknesses, discussion about lifestyle and schedules.

As our foundation is very broad, we now need to work more on the top end. It’s simply not enough anymore to be a bunch of cool guys and girls who love to throw down with each other. As individual competition was already super tough the last couple of years, it seems to be the same with the team competitions now and for the future. We need 6-10 highly competitive athletes to qualify for Regionals 2016, we will find and build them. It is gonna be hard and dedicated work both from athletes and coaches. I am very much looking forward to it, bring the grind, don’t forget the fun of it!

Another change to previous years will be our presence in local european competitions. We are planning the season right now and will most likely show up in one or the other place.

Preparation for 2016 starts right now“

Last WOD, 15.5 ended on Monday night – what five weeks!! We were waiting for Thrusters and we got them:

Recap from Headcoach Ramon Gysin:

‚ 15.2 is in the books. A repeat WOD from 2014, 14.2.

Our team did not perform up to our standards this time. Strategy was a big issue in this WOD and we should have done better. Rank 58 sets us back to a 35th place after three WODs. Three more to go. We will fight for it.

On a large scale, I am astonished by how many people worldwide did improve within a year. CrossFit is still not taken seriously by many other traditional sports. Yet I am sure that within some years only the sport will increase the competitive capacity and ability in a way that you either need to be a logistic/organisational ninja to be able to work full time and perform on the top – or you will have to be a semi-professional.

This affects us and our team as well. It simply means, step up your lifestyle game (sleep, nutrition, effort, dedication) or you will be left behind.

Now Dave, bring on this heavy WOD – here’s 15.3!! ‚

Workout 15.3

14-minute AMRAP:
7 muscle-ups
50 wall balls
100 double-unders
